NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s tennis team earned its third victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Virginia State 4-0 at NSU Tennis Complex.
The Spartans won the opening doubles point with victories at the top two positions. Federico Rebecchini and Boris Lunin defeated Laurence Britt and Joshua Pologne 6-0 at the No. 1 slot, before Ibrahim Abbas and Roosevelt Brown IIIcruised past Jalen Felix and Justin Brown-Russell 6-1 at No. 2.
Brown won at No. 6 singles by default, putting the Spartans ahead 2-0 in the match. Lunin kept the momentum going with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Hugo Massoni Lena took down Felix by the same score at No. 2.
Of the three unfinished matches, only the No. 1 singles showdown had gotten underway. Rebecchini led 6-0, 3-0 when the Spartans earned the clinching point.
Norfolk State completes its weekend home stand against South Carolina State on Monday at 12 p.m., the Spartans’ fourth match at NSU complex in as many days.
